Give completion a little room

Read minibuffer candidates in a vertical list.

Icomplete is a built-in minibuffer completion interface. Its vertical mode, available in Emacs 28 and later, puts candidates on separate lines instead of squeezing them into the prompt.

Try M-x after enabling these modes. The vertical list is also one of the inspirations for this site's command interface.

Use one completion display at a time. If you already use Vertico or another minibuffer completion frontend, disable it before trying Icomplete.

(use-package icomplete
  :ensure nil
  :config
  (icomplete-mode 1)
  (icomplete-vertical-mode 1))
